And, this too we shall survive

I’ve been spending far too much time on facebook since Christmas when Eric and I had a friend entice us to add our names to the every growing neighborhood of status updates.  I’ve found though that I’ve neglected my knitting, my housework, and even my training for the mini.  So, my goal tonight is to update my blog, and hit the treadmill that is screaming my name! (The housework can wait) I am normally in my strength building class on Tuesdays, but the snow hit around lunch and isn’t giving up, so I’m not tempting the Gods and staying put.  My in-home treadmill will suffice this evening.
Anyway, oh yes, the blog.  Our tub came in today, and oh yeah man, we are excited.  If you’ve ever had frozen pipes, you have no idea how exciting it is to know you’ll have a backup shower soon!  Right now the project of the week is the canned lights going in.  This will provide plenty of headroom for our friends who are well over 6 foot! (uh huh, Dennis, you can even clear the ceiling).
So, for now, here is an update of that project.  Hopefully as of this Saturday, I’ll have a picture of the wall tile.  For now, it’s only slate……I never dreamed I’d get excited about slate!  I am planning our hiking trip for spring, so there are some exciting things in the works!  Can’t forget the important things!

Catch up on photo’s

I went through the blog today and realized I have not posted the outcome of our construction horror last year.  It turned out great, but we rarely discuss that fiasco anymore.  We are on top of the pipe situation now also on the shower since they froze this last week.  Feels good that we have that under control.  But, here are a few to catch you up if you haven’t seen it in person yet……….

PHOTO OF SUNROOM PRIOR TO INSPECTION….yes, that was our only Christmas deco i n 2007.

This is the interior of our shower walls now…..it’s the same on both sides.

And, last, we had the house painted this last spring……and it looks entirely different now.  This is the backyard view now after we tore off the old deck and replaced it.

Back to the grind…….

We went down to Florida for some R&R at my parents this past weekend.  It was such a nice trip.  Mom and I shopped, Eric and my stepdad fished.  Can you think of anything better!  The below picture is a snap of his fishing hole for the weekend.  Peaceful and awesome…….we are relaxed.

The basement is in progress

Eric has been home a couple weeks on vacation and during that time he has been chipping away at the basement floor that was the original flooring.  I was somewhat glad to be going to work so I could escape the pounding!  But, we are getting close to a finished basement at least.  It should be pretty cool.

We’ve got mail

We took a break last week and went up to Saugatuck MI to rest, relax and hike a little.  It was great.  Before we left, Eric put our mailbox together.  It was a two day project, but well worth the time by the outcome of it.  It matches the house well with the brick color.  It’s so much better than the old black mailbox that scraped your thumb everyday.  I just let the door drop all the time to avoid the potential loss of skin.  Long two years of that mailbox!  We’re getting there with the outside projects, but with the cold air coming later in the week, all the yard goodies and pretties will have to be put away.

Tree Loss

Two of our Bradford Pears decided to split yesterday during the high winds.
One took a split towards the little pool house and the other dropped it’s largest
limb making it look incredibly weird.  Only a couple shingles show damage
fortunately.  We may lose only one of the trees, which is in the below picture.
So, tonight, Eric is taking time out from the basement and doing some chainsaw
work.  It’s going to take awhile.  Ugh!

A night out for me….

This last week I went to see the author Elizabeth Gilbert speak at a local church.  She wrote the book
Eat, Pray, Love.  I enjoyed the book, but was more interested in what she was going to talk about on
September 10 since the topic was Creativity.  I found it interesting that she talked about her writing as
her “baby” and the difficulty of releasing her creations to the world.  It’s true, you know, when you
create, you like to hang on to it because you feel no one will love it as much as you.  I met a lot of
artists my freshman year in college because I enrolled in an art appreciation course to test the waters
of being an art major.  I found some artists really stress over selling their art, especially when it is done
while going through some moment in their lives that their art gave them comfort while making the piece.
What I had not been prepared for on that first day of classes was the art building(now a parking lot)
that I would attend that class in and the individuals I would meet.  I found them to be some of the most
interesting and different people I’ve ever met, and am still friends with a couple of those strange birds
to this day, which is what they actually call me also.  The building, another story, we were lucky it
stood the entire semester.  They make conversation quite interesting and at times fascinating.
They never fear what folks think about their staying the course of their creativity. I go to their local
art fair each summer to see their booths still and laugh at their perspectives in their art with them.
So, long story short, I found EG to be as profound and interesting as many of my long time old friends
in the art world.  So, although the picture is grainy, I attached a picture of her that I took slyly
with my cell phone while she was talking.

Also, I attached one of my bracelets since the Colts gave us a win today!

No updates on the basement.  Eric is moving wiring and so I spent some of the day in the dark as he hit
the breaker to move it.  We got hit with Ike today and lost two trees in the backyard also from the winds.
Never a dull moment or a loss for projects!  It will be a week of chain saws and more firewood.  Later!

Art Fair and Continued construction…..

Cate and I went to Penrod this weekend and had a great time.  Eric worked away at
the basement.  We finally have a good bid from a trustworthy contractor to do the
supporting beam.  We’ve made a good plan for the area that used to be the sauna
and will soon be the sink and bar/cabinets to store goodies for the pool area.
I wish you could draw on blog.com and I’d draw it for you, but here’s a picture
of what is there now.  Some day will be the “after” picture……  Have a good week!

The walls are coming down!

This picture below gives the best idea of what two walls are coming down to create a large
open room in the basement.  The window lends a lot of light to the area.
We are looking forward to the completion so that we can watch movies again on a big screen,
and pull out the rest of our stash from our old basement.  I forget what’s even in those boxes!
The fish tank does not stay!

Change of Mind……

I firmly believe every blogger has a right to change their mind, which is what I’m going to do as I begin to blog again on my site.  I lost the urge to post for awhile while working at a job that was a lot of travel,
so I had no time to get it done.  Well, life changes, and so do jobs, so now I feel the blog roll screaming my name again.  I have been a faithful reader to my blog friends which probably helped prompt me.
One of my blogger friends had this link below on her site and I’ve been fully engrossed in the progess of this couple.  So, I thought I’d add it to my blog also.  Share your prayers with them…..
See more info in the blogroll to the right
http://www.nieniedialogues.blogspot.com/

I’ll add some new pictures tomorrow.  I’m doing some bracelets again, so I’ll share my art.

Eric is also tearing up the basement, so through the pounding of the tear up of
the tile below, I will remain diligent in my updates!

Say goodbye to the floor!

And the ugly bathroom!
